The Houston Dynamo and BBVA Compass conducted a revitalization project in Houston’s East End neighborhood today as part of their ‘Building a Better Community’ initiative.
After morning kickoff ceremonies, complete with a ceremonial first paint stroke, approximately 100 volunteers – including BBVA Compass employees, Dynamo front office staff, Dynamo Girls and Dynamo Charities board members – helped landscape, paint and repair three East End homes.
“The East End neighborhood is our new home and we look forward to being good neighbors for a long time,” said Dynamo President Chris Canetti. “This project with BBVA Compass is the beginning of what we plan to do in the area.”
“The work undertaken by our employees, the Dynamo and Rebuilding Together will help to build a better future for Houstonians, especially those in the East End,” said Manolo Sánchez, BBVA U.S. country manager and BBVA Compass president and CEO. “We are excited to be part of the progress in this vibrant, inner-city neighborhood.”
Through the Rebuilding Together Foundation and a $50,000 grant from the BBVA Compass Foundation, the following results were made:
- Three (3) homes located in Houston’s East End neighborhood owned by low income elderly citizens were chosen to receive exterior home repairs including window replacements, new roofs, wheel chair accessible ramps and painting and carpentry repairs
- In partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Houston, Settegast Park located in Houston’s East End was chosen for clean –ups and landscaping resulting in all trees receiving new mulch and trash picked up
- Ninety (90) BBVA Compass Bank employees and twenty (20) Dynamo employees volunteered resulting in a total of 550 volunteer hours
