The Houston Chronicle announced their list of the most interesting people in the Houston area, and Brian Ching was named as one of the 43 individuals in the lineup.

Here's what the Chronicle had to say about Ching:

Ching will soon retire from the Houston Dynamo. He is the first Hawaiian US men’s national team soccer player. Although he is a Houston import, Ching has become the face of the franchise, and indeed soccer in Houston, and has completely adopted his new hometown.

Four select teams were named for the event: two for the U-15/16 age group and two for U-17/18. Lucatero will play for the U-17/18 Blue Select Team. The two teams in each age group will face off on Dec. 12 at the Premier Sports Campus. U-15/16s kick off at 5 p.m. CT, with the U-17/18s following at 7 p.m. CT. Lucatero was recently voted Dynamo Academy Player of the Year at the 2013 Dynamo Celebration. He has been involved in several U.S. Youth National Team training camps, most recently in September. The Pasadena native is one of six players on the U-17/18 select teams who participated in the September camp. The elite Academy players for all four rosters were selected by U.S. Soccer technical advisors, who will also be coaching the teams.

The U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase will bring every U-16 and U-18 team in the Development Academy to Florida from Dec. 11-15 for a round of games against teams outside their normal conference. The Dynamo U-18s will face a trio of 2013 Finals Week teams in the Seattle Sounders, Shattuck-St. Mary's Soccer Academy and the Vancouver Whitecaps. The U-16s will take on the New York Red Bulls, LA Galaxy and De Anza Force.

Congrats to former Dynamo defender and current University of Washington assistant coach Craig Waibel for being named Regional Assistant Coach of the Year in the Far West region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)!

Waibel and the Huskies, led by head coach Jamie Clark, have compiled a 16-1-4 record in 2013 and will host New Mexico this Saturday in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament with a trip to the College Cup on the line. Washington went into the tournament as the No. 2 overall seed and Pac-12 champions.

After finishing his playing career with the Dynamo in 2010, Waibel went to the University of Michigan as an assistant coach in 2011 before accepting the same position at Washington, his alma mater, in 2012. In his two seasons, the Dawgs have gone 29-6-6, including 3-1-0 in the NCAA Tournament.

"The Peaceful Warrior" is scheduled to be at BBVA Compass Stadium next Friday for Brian Ching's Testimonial Match, presented by BBVA Compass, but the College Cup begins the same day at PPL Park in Philadelphia. We'll understand if he has other commitments, such as winning a championship.
