I don't normally write posts encouraging fans to watch non-Dynamo games, but Saturday's match between the Chicago Fire and the New York Red Bulls carries a lot of significance, on and off the field.
On the field, these are two teams ahead of the Dynamo in the standings. The Fire and Red Bulls are currently tied for second place in the Eastern Conference, four points ahead of the Dynamo. With three games to go in the regular season, the Dynamo would love nothing more than to clinch a playoff spot and finish in one of the top three positions, thus missing the one-game wild-card match between the fourth and fifth place teams.
Off the field, Saturday's match is the second MLS match to be broadcast on the main NBC channel. The first was on September 15, when the Portland Timbers played the Seattle Sounders to a 1-1 draw in front of a sold-out crowd at JELD-WEN Field.
MLS is in the first year of a TV deal with NBC Sports and by all accounts, the partnership has been a success, with higher ratings and top-notch broadcasts on both NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. We encourage all fans to support the growth of the league and tune in to Saturday's match on NBC before heading to BBVA Compass Stadium for our match vs. the Montreal Impact. Following the Dynamo's 1-0 win over D.C. United in the grand opening of BBVA Compass Stadium, KPRC Local 2 sports director Randy McIlvoy went live with the third edition of Dynamo 360. The show featured footage from the pregame festivities, ingame highlights and postgame celebrations. In addition, Brad Davis, Brian Ching and head coach Dominic Kinnear spoke with Randy on the field.
Dynamo 360 is a monthly show featuring exclusive Dynamo content on KPRC Local 2. This Saturday, KPRC Local 2 will air their third Dynamo match of the season. Saturday's match against New England kicks off at 6:30 p.m. CT (pregame show: 6 p.m. CT).
Last Saturday, the Houston Dynamo and KPRC Local 2 kicked off their new partnership with a 30-minute feature titled "The New Home of the Dynamo." The feature was the first of a series of monthly TV shows on KPRC dedicated to Dynamo news, on and off the pitch. The first episode was scheduled to air at 5 p.m. CT, but due to a double-overtime hockey game, the start time was pushed back until 6:30 p.m. For those that were able to watch the show at home, we hope you enjoyed and look forward to hearing your feedback. The first episode featured interviews with Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear and the voice of the Dynamo, Glenn Davis. Randy McIlvoy also went inside BBVA Compass Stadium with Brian Ching and Brad Davis and took a look at a series of community initiatives called Building a Better Houston presented by BBVA Compass.
Most importantly, Dynamo fans got their first look at a series of promos shot with Davis, Ching and Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell and Geoff Cameron. Trust me, these are things you do not want to miss.
It's been almost a month since NBC Sports Network aired their first MLS game and by all accounts the partnership has been a huge success. The broadcast quality has been fantastic and NBC has worked their tails off to make MLS broadcasts as professional as the ones they do for the NFL or NHL.
