Houston Dynamo

As we all know, Will Bruin can be a dangerous man up top when he's on his A-game and this weekend was no exception. The Dancing Bear dominated Saturday's win over Portland and contributed 2 huge goals: One to open up scoring with a great header off a Brad Davis free kick and another due to pure hustle, beating everyone on the field with speed and chipping a cheeky shot past Kwarasey to seal up the win for Houston. It's no suprise that Bruin has been named to MLS Team of the Week in Week 11. DaMarcus Beasley was also named to the bench.

Read on below to find out who else made the Team of the Week: (via

GK: Chris Konopka (Toronto FC) – Made seven saves, several of them breathtaking, to keep TFC in a game in which they were dominated for significant periods.

D: London Woodberry (New England Revolution) – He set up Juan Agudelo’s goal and put in hard work both on and off the ball along the Revs’ right flank as they drew TFC 1-1.

D: Walker Zimmerman (FC Dallas) – Linked up well with Matt Hedges in the back, and played a steady, assured game to preserve a clean sheet against the Red Bulls.

D: Jordan Stewart (San Jose Earthquakes) – Kept Columbus’ wily attack at bay early, and bombed upfield to set up the Quakes’ winning goal in the second half as they finished off Crew SC 2-0.

M: Andres Romero (Montreal Impact) – Showed the form that made him a star during the Impact's CCL run, scoring two goals in Montreal's 4-1 romp over RSL.

M: Kaká (Orlando City SC) – Was mostly anonymous in Orlando City's midweek game but was assertive, aggressive and wildly effective in Sunday's match. He started the play for Orlando’s first goal, assisted on the second and drew/converted the PK for the third. It was perhaps the best game of the Brazilian’s MLS career thus far.

M: Calum Mallace (Montreal Impact) –Controlled the midfield against a disorganized RSL side, completing over 87 percent of his passes and registering two chances created.

M: Shea Salinas (San Jose Earthquakes) – Seems to be thriving in Dom Kinnear’s system, with his skill, ability to cut inside and defensive work in midfield resulting in a strong performance against Columbus.

F: Will Bruin (Houston Dynamo) – Was a beast up top for Owen Coyle's side, scoring twice in the Dynamo's 3-1 win against Portland.

F: Chad Barrett (Seattle Sounders) – No Obafemi, no problem, as Barrett took his chances well, and scored his first brace in league play in five years as the Sounders beat the Whitecaps 2-0.

F: Cyle Larin (Orlando City SC) Was mostly excellent in Sunday's rout of LA. Great movement, solid possession play and a cool finish on his goal. Also provided a goal in Orlando City's midweek loss to United.

Coach: Sigi Schmid (Seattle Sounders) – Showed up to Vancouver without one of his top two players and saw his team snuff out their rivals dangerous attack with relative ease.

Bench: Bill Hamid (D.C. United), DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo), Maurice Edu(Philadelphia Union), Felipe (New York Red Bulls), Gonzalo Pineda (Seattle Sounders), Brek Shea (Orlando City SC), David Villa (New York City FC)

It was a bittersweet moment earlier this week when Dynamo legend Dwayne De Rosario announced that he is officially hanging up his boots. No one will ever quite be able to match the flair DeRo brought to the pitch...or correctly replicate that strut. We've put together a few factoids along with a some of our favorite moments from DeRo's time in orange to celebrate his unbelievable career.

He holds the following Dynamo records:

  • 32 goals in all competitions – fourth on club list
  • 21 assists in all competitions – fifth on club list
  • 24 regular season goals – fifth on club list

In the franchise's inaugural match on April 2, 2006, DeRo recorded 4 assists, a franchise record to this day, on all 4 of Brian Ching's goals in front of a packed house at The Rob to propel the Dynamo to a 5-2 victory.

DeRo also scored the winning goal in the 2006 MLS All-Star game vs. Chelsea...and was named All-Star game MVP.

But most importantly from that year, DeRo converted his penalty kick and was part of the Dynamo's 1st MLS Cup victory in our 1st season.

Then again in 2007, DeRo scored the winning goal in 74th minute to secure our 2nd MLS Cup in a row. MVP! MVP! MVP!

His all-time Dynamo playoff stats:
10 GP, 10 GS, 2 goals, 4 assists

And when pictures don't do a career justice, it's always nice to have your own highlight reel:

Thank you for everything DeRo! Congratulations on an amazing run!

On May 12, 2012, the Dynamo ushered in a new era in team history with the christening of BBVA Compass Stadium. Thanks to a screamer from 35 yards out by Brad Davis, the boys in orange were able to celebrate their new home with a 1-0 victory over D.C United. Take a walk down memory lane with some of our favorite pictures from the inaugural match:

The time this quote was used perfectly and Houstonians only rolled their eyes a little bit.

All orange. All the time.

These guys. These trophies. <3

Beautiful. The perfect Texas afternoon for the 1st sell-out crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium.

And this moment. What an incredible day. What amazing fans.

Brad's goal made our Top 9 Moments in Dynamo History (of course). Watch:

Happy 3rd Birthday BBVA Compass Stadium! We're proud to call you home.

When Chip Entz got a phone call from his son, a U.S. Air Force staff sergeant currently stationed in Korea, saying that he would be home for Mother's Day, the wheels started turning in Chip's head. As a Forever Orange Member, Chip reached out to the Dynamo for help staging a huge Mother's Day surprise for his wife Dina. During halftime at the Dynamo vs San Jose match, the Entz family was brought down to the field where Dina thought they were being honored as Forever Orange members of the match. Instead, she got a much, much better gift with Andrew's return. Check it out below.

The Entz family's story has since been picked up by ABC World News. Their segment will run tonight during the 5 PM broadcast. So, set your DVRs to record the show (it airs during the 2nd half of our game against Toronto FC) and check it out after the match!

Boniek Garcia grew up playing soccer in the streets of Tegucigalpa Honduras, dreaming of the day when he could play for the Honduras National Team in front of packed stadiums. It was a long road to makine those dreams come true, but with the support of his mother, Boniek has become a key piece for both the Dynamo and Los Catrachos. We had a few special guests on the field during pregame ceremonies for Dynamo vs San Jose. Before getting ready for tonight's big showdown at Minute Maid Park, Houston Dynamo minority owner and former world boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya and boxers Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and James “Mandingo Warrior” Kirkland acted as honorary captains at BBVA Compass Stadium, participating in the coin toss and posing for pictures with the team.
