Team of the Week
Another week, another win, another Dynamo player on MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week. This time it's Kofi Sarkodie, who came through in the clutch to clear yet another ball of the line and preserve a second straight shutout for the Dynamo defense. Here's what they had to say about the young right back:
"Cleared yet another goal off the line, and nearly scored a beautiful one of his own, while playing a strong two-way game vs. the Impact."
Winning a game 4-0, like the Dynamo did against the New England Revolution on Saturday night, usually means that there were some standout performances on the field. A couple of those individual performances on the field garnered attention from MLSsoccer.com, and landed Will Bruin and Boniek García on their Team of the Week for Week 1.
Here's what they had to say about Bruin's two goal, one assist outing: "Responds to the naysayers who questioned his finishing with two fantastic strikes in the opening 13 minutes. Will this set the tone for the year? We'll forget the 1-v-1 in the second half on which he should've done better."
García was on the receiving end of Bruin's assist, which he finished with authority after a late midfield run: "Spectacular performance by the Honduran international, who is omnipresent and even more impactful in the center of the field. Makes things happen when the ball is at his feet."
David Horst was also honored as one of seven bench players on the Team of the Week for his part in helping to keep a clean sheet in the first match of the year.
This is his second Team of the Week nod, the first coming in Week 25. This also marks the second consecutive week with a Dynamo player in the XI after Ricardo Clark was included last week.
The Dynamo's other two-goal scorer from the weekend, Boniek García, was named an honorable mention.
Barnes also led the league's weekly Castrol Index Top 20 after his performance, collecting 1,683 points. García and Will Bruin, who added a goal and an assist on Saturday, came in at No. 9 and 14, respectively.
Clark's header was his second against Philadelphia this season, both resulting in 1-0 Dynamo wins. It was Clark's third goal of the year, matching a career high.
Score a couple of goals, make Team of the Week. That's the formula for Giles Barnes in Week 25, as MLSsoccer.com named him to their weekly best XI. Here's what they had to say about him:
"Clint Dempsey may be making the headlines, but Barnes stole the show as Houston topped visiting Seattle, 3-1. The English forward netted two well-struck goals, including a highlight-reel second goal."
That goal has the Dynamo forward up for Goal of the Week as well, which you can vote for here. Barnes is also up for Feature Subject of the Week (I made this award up) thanks to Tom Dart's story for The Guardian chronicling the Englishman's career (read here).
Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia is certainly rounding into form this season, and his performance last weekend against the Columbus Crew earned him Team of the Week honors from MLSsoccer.com. Here's what they had to say about him:
Had a dominant showing on Houston's right flank in their 3-1 win over the Columbus Crew, helping set up two goals as he showed the form that made him one of signings of the season last year.
The smiling Honduran was surely happy with the team's result on Saturday, and again yesterday with the news of former Olimpia teammate Alexander López joining the Dynamo yesterday.
You had to have known this was coming.
After netting two fantastic goals against New England to punctuate his regular steady shift in a 2-1 victory, Dynamo midfielder Adam Moffat was named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week for Week 20.
This is Moffat's first inclusion on the Team of the Week this season.
