For
most of the match, Houston and Morelia battled on a fairly level
playing field with both teams creating quality chances on goal.
However, Houston left the night upset and with a loss, a common theme
this year for the Dynamo.
Dynamo 0, Morelia 1 - postgame notes
The
Houston Dynamo were eliminated from SuperLiga in the semifinals Thursday night,
falling 1-0 to Monarcas Morelia at Robertson Stadium. Morelia advanced to the
SuperLiga championship game against the New England Revolution later this
month.
The
Dynamo will face a quick turnaround with a Sunday road game against the Seattle
Sounders at Qwest Field in Seattle, with their third match in nine days kicking
off at 10 p.m. CT. Houston is 3-3-5 while playing 11 games in 41 days following
the Major League Soccer break for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Dynamo's late surge not enough
Morelia traveled to Houston and secured a 1-0 semifinal victory against the Dynamo in a spirited battle Thursday night to secure a spot in the SuperLiga final.
Morelia had several opportunities to get out to an early lead, but forward Miguel Sabah failed to convert any of the chances. In the 14th minute, after a Brian Mullan turnover, the ball quickly found Sabah just inside the penalty spot, but his effort went over the bar.
Dynamo, Morelia share mutual admiration
When the Dynamo and Monarcas Morelia
step onto the pitch tonight at Robertson Stadium, there will be a mutual
respect emanating from each sideline. However, each team views the game as an
opportunity to better its squad, and each coach is taking the game seriously.
“I think what you will see from us is a very competitive
team, and I expect you will see nothing less from our opponents,” said Dynamo head
coach Dominic Kinnear.

Oduro ruled eligible for SuperLiga match
Houston Dynamo forward Dominic Oduro has been cleared to play in tomorrow night's SuperLiga semifinal match against Morelia after the SuperLiga Appeals Committee overturned his suspension as a result of a red card he received in the July 21 match against Puebla.
"It helps to have him back," head coach Dominic Kinnear said. "If you look at
the squad we have, if Dominic was suspended we would only have two forwards going into this game available with Brian [Ching] and Cam [Weaver]."
Oduro available for SuperLiga semifinal
The SuperLiga Appeals Committee has reviewed the ejection of
Houston Dynamo forward Dominic Oduro from the July 21 match against Puebla FC
and has determined that due to a case of mistaken identity, Oduro shall not be
suspended from his next SuperLiga match, scheduled for August 5 against
Morelia.
The Dynamo will face Morelia
on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Robertson Stadium in one of two SuperLiga
semifinals, Houston’s
third SuperLiga semifinal in its third appearance in the tournament. Tickets
