This is the most attractive group of the two in SuperLiga, perhaps if only for the reason that it will rekindle the Houston vs. Pachuca rivalry. The Dynamo are a couple of years removed from their strongest form, and Pachuca, as always, remain a strong side. Both teams will be favorites to reach the final if only because of their past SuperLiga success.

After losing the edge to the team that has become their greatest international rival, Pachuca, the Houston Dynamo got the one break they needed in the second half of their biggest match of the season. On what appeared to be an innocent corner kick by Dwayne De Rosario, Craig Waibel flicked on the ball at the near post, and defender Bobby Boswell turned home the first goal of the game en route to a 2-0 win in the SuperLiga 2008 semifinals.

In front of more than 28,000 fans, the undermanned Dynamo – playing with only four starters in normal positions – outplayed Mexican powerhouse Chivas but fell to a 1-0 defeat after goalkeeper Ernesto Michel made six saves.

Four months after their epic Champions’ Cup semifinal, Houston and Pachuca met again in another semifinal. In an emotional match, Dwayne De Rosario gave Houston an early lead, only to see Pat Ianni ejected in the first half and Pachuca rally for a 2-1 lead. Playing with 10 men, the Dynamo equalized when Eddie Robinson scored on a late header to tie the score and force overtime. After Pachuca also went down to 10 men, Corey Ashe was ejected for a retaliatory foul in overtime, and the nine-men Dynamo held on to force a shootout.
