The Houston Dynamo completed their first transaction in the transfer window period by trading defender Mike Chabala, midfielder Lovel Palmer and an international roster spot to the Portland Timbers for midfielder Adam Moffat and allocation money.

The trade gives Houston a hard-working midfielder head coach Dominic Kinnear has wanted for more than a year. It also brings them increased financial flexibility.

Even down to nine men, the Houston Dynamo looked like they could hold off
Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night and hang on to a slim 1-0 win thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Tally Hall and a determined defensive effort.

It took a deflected strike from Aurelien Collin in the 90th minute to finally broke Houston’s resistance after a stellar night from Hall, who came within minutes of leading his club to an
improbable three points.

As expected, the Houston Dynamo added two more trialists —
Costa Rican Álvaro Sánchez and German midfielder Björn Lindemann — to
their ranks Friday morning. Both players are slated to be on trial with
the club for one week and could see time in Wednesday's Dynamo Charities Cup.

Despite Houston preparing for an important match against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, the pair participated in crossing drills and a short-field possession game as a first audition with the club.

The auditions keep coming for the Houston Dynamo. After having Daniel
Cruz and Miler Castillo in for trials for parts of the last two weeks,
the club will entertain two more trialists — Costa Rican midfielder
Álvaro Sánchez and an unnamed player — beginning with Friday’s training.

“He’s a good goal-scorer,” head coach Dominic Kinnear said of Sánchez,
who is currently on the books of Costa Rican first-division club San
Carlos. “We’ve talked about improving our attack, and we want to take a
look at him. Hopefully if he scores goals there, he can score goals
here.”
