“El Chewwyyy!”

The cry from
TV Informa announcer Gustavo Rangel was shouted at full volume, calling
attention to a big play. The name, however, was not one usually associated with
a big Dynamo goal or save. But it spoke volumes to the progress of one Mike
Chabala, Houston’s starting left back, known to his teammates as
‘Chewy.’

With a second consecutive home game looming on Saturday, the Dynamo are maintaining their level of intensity in training sessions this week in the hopes of notching back-to-back wins for the first time all season. Saturday's contest against Philadelphia (7:30 p.m.) will kick off a stretch of three games in eight days - Houston's second such stretch already this year - and holds extra significance as the Dynamo's final home contest before the World Cup break.

Danny Cruz scored in his first-ever MLS start and Dominic Oduro hit an impressive second-half volley as the Houston Dynamo bagged a comfortable 2-0 victory over D.C. United on Saturday night, keeping Houston in the thick of the Western Conference race and heaping further misery on D.C.’s worst-ever start.

When Bobby Boswell talks, people
listen. They may not believe their ears or like what they hear or have any idea
how to respond, but they listen. His is an influential personality, with or
without the captain’s armband he has worn proudly on his right bicep throughout
much of the season.
