The struggling Houston Dynamo defense will be shorthanded this weekend, as starting left back Mike Chabala serves a suspension for yellow card accumulation. But center back Bobby Boswell does not sound all that worried, joking that the impact of Chabala’s loss will be less athletic than aesthetic.

The Houston Dynamo returned to practice Tuesday and were still a little sore about the team’s performance Sunday night against the Sounders.

When asked about Sunday’s game, head coach Dominic Kinnear seemed eager to put the team’s performance in the rear view mirror.

“Moving on, next question,” Kinnear said. “We’re all disappointed with what’s going on, and we’re looking forward to the [next] game.”

Some of the players were not as frustrated with the result as they were with the collective effort.

The rumors finally became reality on Tuesday, as the Portland Timbers named former Houston Dynamo assistant John Spencer as their new manager ahead of their first MLS expansion season in 2011. He will be officially introduced at a press event on Wednesday.

Spencer's first order of business will come in a couple of weeks as he works with Timbers technical director Gavin Wilkinson to select the MLS player-selection mechanisms in which the club will seek priority over fellow expansion club Vancouver Whitecaps.

On Sunday night, the Houston Dynamo return to league play when they travel to take on the Seattle Sounders and desperately hope for a victory to spark a playoff run.

“It’s a huge game for us, and it’s going to be great up there. We know they are going to have good support, and it’s going to be a great atmosphere,” said defender Andrew Hainault. “However, we are desperate for three points and it would be great. It has been a while since we got a win, and to do it there would be extra special.”
