Houston Dynamo bands together to claim three points after red card takes them down to 10 men

Dynamo were put in a corner after Cochran's ejection, but held strong to claim a crucial win

The Houston Dynamo showed great resiliency after claiming a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC down a man, but the way they were put in that disadvantageous position was brought into question after the game.

Rookie center back AJ Cochran was shown a straight red card when he was whistled for bringing down Toronto FC forward Luke Moore in the box in the 55th minute. Moore broke into the box and past Cochran, who grabbed his jersey.

After a bizarre three minutes ended with an AJ Cochran red card and Houston going down a man, Deric stoned the penalty kick of one of the league’s premier strikers, Jermain Defoe, before going on to make save after unbelievable save to preserve a critical 1-0 win for the 10-man Dynamo at Toronto FC.

Last Saturday’s 1-0 road defeat to the New York Red Bulls turned an uphill task into a mountainous climb for Dominic Kinnear’s side, who are seven points adrift of fifth-placed Columbus Crew with four matches left.
