Owen Coyle led his first training session as Houston Dynamo manager on Monday, running his team through fitness drills and a bit of possession work in front of a big crowd at Houston Sports Park.

More important than the mechanics of the session, however, was Coyle’s message: A two-pronged approach emphasizing team unity and the need for players to express themselves.

The Houston Dynamo wrapped up their 2014 preseason campaign with a 2-0 win over the Charleston Battery of USL Pro in the final game of the Carolina Challenge Cup at Blackbaud Stadium.

As the final tune-up before the MLS regular season opener against the New England Revolution on March 8, two of the primary objectives of the evening were to give starters their longest runout before the real games start, and to come out of the game unscathed and injury-free. The former was accomplished, as the majority of the starting eleven went at least 80 minutes, if not the full 90.
