Owen Coyle led his first training session as Houston Dynamo manager on Monday, running his team through fitness drills and a bit of possession work in front of a big crowd at Houston Sports Park.

More important than the mechanics of the session, however, was Coyle’s message: A two-pronged approach emphasizing team unity and the need for players to express themselves.

The Houston Dynamo announced their 2015 preseason schedule today, with training sessions beginning on Monday, Jan. 26. The schedule is tentative and subject to change.

The Houston Dynamo will compete in the Carolina Challenge Cup and the Desert Friendlies next February as part of the 2015 preseason. This marks the third consecutive year in which the Dynamo will spend a portion of their preseason in Tucson, Arizona and Charleston, South Carolina.

The Desert Friendlies, hosted by PDL club FC Tucson, are held at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson. The Dynamo will face the San Jose Earthquakes (Feb. 4), Portland Timbers (Feb. 7) and Vancouver Whitecaps FC (Feb. 10), with training held throughout the remainder of the trip.

The Dynamo completed the 2014 preseason with a 2-0 win over the Charleston Battery on Saturday night. The victory capped a dizzying stretch of 11 preseason games in 32 days in preparation for the regular season, set to begin on Saturday as the Dynamo host the New England Revolution at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Houston Dynamo wrapped up their 2014 preseason campaign with a 2-0 win over the Charleston Battery of USL Pro in the final game of the Carolina Challenge Cup at Blackbaud Stadium.

As the final tune-up before the MLS regular season opener against the New England Revolution on March 8, two of the primary objectives of the evening were to give starters their longest runout before the real games start, and to come out of the game unscathed and injury-free. The former was accomplished, as the majority of the starting eleven went at least 80 minutes, if not the full 90.
