Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching has partnered once again with Houston Habitat for Humanity on his charitable initiative, The House that Ching Built. After participating in a video public service announcement for the organization in 2010, Brian was curious to learn more. A visit to a Houston Habitat for Humanity build site was enough for him to commit to fundraise $75,000 to build a house. In October 2010 the project was finished.
In early 2013 in the midst of announcing his retirement from professional soccer, Ching, started a fundraising campaign to build a second “green” house. Through generous donations from private companies and individuals including proceeds from the Testimonial Match held at BBVA Compass Stadium, he was able to raise $125,000 for Houston Habitat for Humanity. The amount covers a 2nd house to be finished in mid 2014 and also seed money for a 3rd house in 2015. The House(s) That Ching Built is a testament to the commitment and love he has for his adopted city.
“Partnering with Houston Habitat has been fantastic for me, as it’s something that I’ve been blessed to be able to do," said Ching. “Seeing how much this project has changed the first two families that benefitted from The House that Ching Built is something that is special to me. As I near the end of my playing career I now have the possibility of making a positive impact on a third family, which is equally rewarding.”
