KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 14, 2024) – Houston Dynamo 2 opened a four-game road trip with a 4-0 loss to Sporting KC II at Mercy Victory Field earlier today. Dynamo 2 played the final 49 minutes with 10 players after defender Omar Grey received his second yellow card of the match in the 41st minute for a foul.
Sporting KC II took the lead in the ninth minute after Kayden Pierre found Maouloune Goumballe at the near post for the one-touch finish. The hosts doubled their lead in the 75th minute after Kamrom Habibullah found the far post.
The third goal of the game came in the 84th minute after Sebastian Cruz found the inside of the near post from an extremely tight angle. Megdy Alexandre scored his first goal of the season moments later following a cross from Ethan Bryant, his second assist of the match.
Houston’s first shot of the game came in the third minute after the team won possession in their half of the field. Forward Ousmane Sylla played a ball to forward Ifu Achara at the edge of the box and his shot was tipped away by Sporting KC goalkeeper Ryan Schewe. The first of two saves Dynamo 2 forced this afternoon at Mercy Victory Field.
Dynamo 2 captain Diego Gonzalez took a shot from outside the box in the 13th minute that just missed the inside of the near post. Houston’s push for the equalizer continued minutes later with a shot from midfielder Brooklyn Raines that was blocked near the penalty spot.
Achara forced a save in the 38th minute after Sylla dribbled into the box and played the ball back to the forward. Houston finished with five shots inside the box and one big chance.
Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Xavier Valdez finished with five saves against Sporting KC II. Homegrown defender Kieran Sargeant finished with five clearances and Femi Awodesu led the team with seven clearances.
Dynamo 2 continue their four-game road trip on Sunday, April 28 when they visit North Texas SC at Globe Life Park. The team returns to SaberCats Stadium on May 22 to host St. Louis CITY SC II. Tickets for that match and all Dynamo 2 games
