At the Dynamo, we are proud of our commitment to help the Houston community through a varity of charitable initiatives. Many of the initiatives are driven by the organization, while some are driven by the passion of our players. Regardless of the cause, Dynamo fans are always willing to chip with their time or a dollar and we can't thank them enough.
With that said, we are thrilled to see that one of our supporters groups, Texian Army, will be hosting a bake sale before Sunday's game to raise money for the first responders in West, Texas. 100% of the funds raised will go toward the Abbott Volunteer Fire Department, which lost three members in the fire and 11 more volunteers remain hospitalized.
This is a great cause and we urge all Dynamo fans to stop by the Texian Army tailgate in Lot C before the game and purchase a baked good or just donate to the cause.
Check out the Texian Army Facebook page for more information about this great event.
Thanks for your support and go Dynamo!
The Houston Dynamo will be honoring first responders at Sunday's game for their bravery in the wake of recent tragedies as well as for the courageous duties they perform on a daily basis. Dynamo defenders Corey Ashe and Mike Chabala and goalkeeper Tally Hall recorded this message as a token of our appreciation.
MLS Insider Josh Whisenhunt continues MLSsoccer.com's Top-5 countdown with a look at the top five hairstyles in Major League Soccer. No surprise, Warren Creavalle and his throw-back flat top hairstyle made the cut (no pun inteded).
We'll assume that Bryan Salazar's fro-hawk (pictured, below) missed the list because of his relative anonymity in MLS circles, but it won't be long before this hairdo becomes one of the most recognizable in MLS.
In the latest edition of Road to the First Team, presented by Statoil, we caught up with Dynamo Academy forward Irvin Ramirez. The U-18 winger joined the Academy almost three years ago and has enjoyed much success in the program including seven goals scored in 22 matches in 2013.
The following eight players from this season’s Center of Excellence training program have been invited by Dynamo staff coaches to trial with the Junior Academy program for the next several weeks with an eye towards potentially joining the Junior Academy for the remainder of the spring season. These players have been invited to this elite level training program because of their mentality and focus in training sessions, their skillful performances in the Center of Excellence training session and the Houston Dynamo Champions League, and their positive attitude and work ethic both on and off the field.

“The Center of Excellence exists to provide professional coaching and training to 8-12 year old boys and girls so that we can help a great number of soccer players to further develop their soccer skills, to increase their love of the game, and to connect the Houston community more fully with the Houston Dynamo," said Houston Dynamo Soccer Program Manager Justin Neese. "The program also exists to identify players who might potentially have the ability and mentality to play in other Dynamo programs and teams. That these players have been indentified and offered this opportunity is excellent news for our program and for all of its players.”
Congratulations to these players!
On Monday, Houston Dynamo players and coaches participated in the eighth annual Tommy Bahama Island Cowboy Classic at The Woodlands Country Club. More than 30 teams participated in the event which included Dynamo forwards Brian Ching and Will Bruin, midfielder Andrew Driver, defenders Bobby Boswell and Mike Chabala and coaches Dominic Kinnear and Steve Ralston.
Proceeds from the event benefitted the Woodlands Shooting Stars Special Olympics and Dynamo Charities, presented by The Halliburton Charitable Foundation.
I'm going to be honest with you. This is one of the most fun videos you will watch this year.
Jared Montz, a former professional soccer player, has teammed up with the Nothing but Nets campaign to raise awareness for the need for malaria nets in Africa. According to the organization, a child dies of malaria every 60 seconds.
As part of the campaign, Montz visited MLS cities across the U.S. and filmed himself juggling in and around stadiums as well as with players on the various teams. In Houston, Mike Chabala, Bobby Boswell and Ricardo Clark joined Montz for his video. Check out the video below and click here to learn more about how you can juggle to save lives.

Through the first three matches of the Rowdies' season, Dixon has made two appearances off the bench. Most recently, the Dynamo homegrown midfielder played the final 25 minutes of Tampa Bay's 4-3 loss to the Atlanta Silverbacks. Dixon and the Rowdies will head to south Florida this weekend to take on the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers on Satuday night at 7:30 p.m.
Brian Ownby has become a regular for his hometown club since joining the Kickers on loan in March. A week after playing 74 minutes and recording an assist in the 4-1 win over the Charleston Battery, Ownby started and played 83 minutes in last week's 4-1 win over the Rochester Rhinos. The second-year midfielder had one shot attempt in the match as the Kickers improved to 2-0-1 on the season.
Joining Ownby in Richmond is a familiar face to Dynamo fans. Last week, the club announced the signing of former Dynamo midfielder Joseph Ngwenya. The Zimbabwean striker scored eight MLS goals across two stints with Houston and recorded goals in his first two appearances for Richmond.
The Kickers are off this weekend and resume play on May 3 when they travel to North Carolina to take on the Wilmington Hammerheads.
