Three Houston Dynamo players were recognized by media outlets for their performance in Saturday's 0-0 road draw against the Philadelphia Union.
Honduras national team midfielder Luis Garrido earned Team of the Week honors from MLSSoccer.com:
“His backtracking and recovery work was excellent all game, helping to thwart the Union attack and collect a point on the road.”
Defender David Horst was named to the bench (next seven best players) at the same outlet for his outstanding performance in his home state, which helped the Dynamo record their eighth shutout of the season.
Rookie AJ Cochran, Horst’s center back partner in Philadelphia, also gained praise for his performance and was named to SI.com’s Best XI for the week. SI writer Liviu Bird described Cochran’s outing:
“In a scoreless draw against Philadelphia, Cochran blocked a whopping five shots for the Dynamo. He also recovered seven loose balls and made three clearances.”
Tyler Deric recorded his second-ever MLS shutout on Saturday against the Philadelphia Union, and he had to earn it. At the start of the second half, Andrew Wenger played a ball towards goal that Conor Casey stretched for but couldn't get a toe on. Deric switched from expecting a deflection to blocking the rolling ball. Casey was still around to recover the spilled ball, but Deric got down to get his hand on the follow-up shot and preserve the clean sheet.
