Here are some pregame notes ahead of Sunday's Mother's Day matchup between the Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake:
• Bruin reaches six goals earliest in four-year career: Dynamo forward Will Bruin scored his sixth goal of the 2014 season on Wednesday against Columbus. Bruin now has six goals through ten games, his fastest six goal start to a season in his Dynamo career. Bruin needed 13 games (June 16, vs. FC Dallas) to reach six goals in 2012, when he scored 12 goals in the regular season and added four more in the playoffs to set a franchise record for goals in a season.
• Bruin fastest Dynamo player to six goals since Ching in 2006: Will Bruin (10 games) is the earliest Dynamo player to score six goals in a season since Brian Ching in 2006. Spurred by four goals in the club’s inaugural match, Ching scored six goals in Houston’s first five games of the 2006 season. Ching added his seventh goal in the club’s sixth game.
• Bruin seeking Houston’s first four-game scoring streak: Will Bruin has scored in three consecutive games and is the first Dynamo player to accomplish the feat since he scored in three straight games in June 2012 (four goals in a three-game span). Bruin is the first player in Dynamo history with three career three-game scoring streaks. Bruin’s first came in April 2012. His current streak marks the seventh time a Dynamo player has scored in three consecutive games: Bruin 3X; Ching 2006, 2008; Joseph Ngwenya 2007; Stuart Holden 2009). No Dynamo player has ever scored in four consecutive games.
• Kinnear one point from 500 career points: Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear has 499 points as an MLS head coach after Wednesday’s win over Columbus. With a point or more on Sunday vs. Real Salt Lake, he’ll become the third head coach in MLS history to reach 500 career points. Kinnear is in his 11th year as head coach between Houston and San Jose and trails only Sigi Schmid and Bruce Arena on the league’s all-time wins and points lists.

Once again a Dynamo player is getting some recognition in MLSsoccer.com’s Team of the Week, but this time for offense. This week, Giles Barnes was named to the team of the week for his two goal night against Chivas USA and overall solid performance on Saturday night. Here’s what the editors had to say about Barnes’ performance on Saturday:
“Ran roughshod on Chivas’ defense and put in the effort on the defensive end to go with his two goals. He looks like a man on a mission in 2014.”
It was Barnes’ third two-goal game since joining the Dynamo in 2012 and first since last September, when Chivas USA was again on the wrong end of a big night from Barnes. The Dynamo will try to carry the momentum to their match against the Columbus Crew on Wednesday at BBVA Compass Stadium.
