Through partnerships with the YMCA and NSCAA, Dynamo Youth Programs held a coaching clinic at BBVA Compass Stadium that allowed over 80 local YMCA coaches to receive their NSCAA Level One Coaching Diploma last Friday.
The clinic, led by Youth Programs and NSCAA coach Justin Neese, included a field portion that allowed the coaches in attendance to apply their lessons on the Dynamo's home field at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The Dynamo's partnership with the YMCA offers coaching education opportunities, like this one, to develop their soccer programming. The event worked hand-in-hand with the Dynamo's work with the NSCAA to provide top-level coaching diplomas throughout the Greater Houston area, targeting volunteer coaches to elevate the level of coaching and play in our area.
Relive the best moments from Sunday's win over the Chicago Fire at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Houston Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia returned to the starting lineup on Sunday against the Chicago Fire and delivered a performance worthy of man of the match notoriety. For his efforts, Garcia was named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Week for week 29.
Garcia scored his first goal since opening night, a wonderful volley to cap a strong buildup that started with Luis Garrido and included a quality cross from Kofi Sarkodie and calm header from Brad Davis. The goal is a nominee for MLS Goal of the Week (VOTE HERE.)
The two-time Honduras World Cup veteran also produced two wonderful passes, beginning with a lofted ball from behind midfield to Giles Barnes, who nearly beat Sean Johnson over the top with a deft chip.
In the second half, Garcia split the Chicago defense with a well-weighted through ball for Barnes, who forced another save from Johnson.
The league website summarized Garcia’s performance:
“If not for two huge saves by Sean Johnson, Boniek walks out with two assists and a goal in his first game back from concussion. Houston won anyway, 2-0.”
Another week, another shutout, and another MLS Save of the Week nomination for Tyler Deric. This time it's for his stop on Quincy Amarikwa's acrobatic volley attempt, which Deric dove to get his fingertips on and tip around the post.

Boniek García got on the scoresheet for the second time this year and did so with class. His volley to clinch the win against Chicago on Sunday capped a pretty team move with a cross from Kofi Sarkodie and a centering header from Brad Davis, and it's earned a nomination for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week.
Boniek is up against two Seattle Sounders players and two LA Galaxy players, so he should win in a landslide because everyone love Boniek and just look at his smile and what a great kick and he celebrates by going to his family and he's just the best.
