BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup
The BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup is an annual event bringing prominent international teams to Houston to raise money for charity. A portion of the proceeds from the match are donated to a different charitable cause each year by Dynamo Charities, the charitable arm of the Houston Dynamo presented by the Halliburton Foundation. It began in 2009 when the Dynamo beat Mexican club Monterrey 2-1. In 2010, the Dynamo welcomed Águila from San Miguel, El Salvador, and rolled to a 4-0 win in front of a crowd of 11,843, surpassing the attendance from the inaugural edition.
The 2011 edition saw the Dynamo take on their first European opponent, English Premier League club Bolton Wanderers, and Bolton came away with a 2-0 win.
In 2012, the Dynamo hosted Valencia CF of Spain in the fourth edition of the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup with the visitors earning a 2-1 victory before a sellout crowd at the new BBVA Compass Stadium.
The Dynamo welcomed former club star Geoff Cameron and Stoke City FC of the English Premier League in 2013, coming away with a 2-0 win over the Potters.
Partial proceeds from this year's match benefited the Building a Better Houston initiative dedicated to improving Houston's East End.
