What’s at Stake?
Houston will try to snap a two-game losing streak and keep from
falling further down the Western Conference table while the Galaxy hope
to extend their season-high 465 shutout minutes.
Edson Buddle scored two
first-half goals and Houston’s Luis Landin picked up a red card late in the
first half as the Galaxy dominated Houston 2-0 at Robertson Stadium on
April 10. The goals were No. 4 and 5 for Buddle.
Heroes & Villains:
Brian Ching vs. Omar Gonzalez: The first time these
teams met this season, Ching was nursing a hamstring injury. Now, he’s
nursing another form of pain: Ching was a surprise omission from the
United States’ World Cup roster, and he’s taking out his frustrations on
the rest of MLS. In two games since he was dropped from the roster, he
has scored two goals. It will be up to Gonzalez to try and contain the
Dynamo forward, as the 2009 Rookie of the Year has the height and
mobility to neutralize him.
Tristan Bowen vs. Bobby Boswell: Is there a weak spot
to Houston’s defense? The answer used to be no, but this season that
weak spot has been Boswell. The former D.C. United standout had an atrocious
performance against Philadelphia and was not much better against New
York. In those games, Houston allowed a combined five goals, unheard of
from the Dynamo's recent seasons. Bowen will give Boswell fits with his
elusive speed and quick feet.
Stat That Makes You Go "Hmm…"
Ten different players have scored goals for the Galaxy, but only
Edson Buddle has tallied more than one. Also, the Galaxy have scored
first in nine of their games this season – the other two were scoreless draws.
He Said It
“Anytime you can get an early goal, you put the other team under
pressure. It’s very important to our success.” – Galaxy coach Bruce
