VIDEO: Academy falls to Galveston

U-18 squad opens preseason with 2-0 loss to men's team

The Houston Dynamo Academy U-18 team opened its preseason with a 2-0 loss to men's amateur team Galveston Pirate Soccer Club on Saturday at Sportsplex in League City in the inaugural Houston Cup. The tournament is a three-team round robin between the Dynamo Academy U-18 squad and amateur teams Galveston Pirate and Regal FC.

Because the Dynamo's USSF Development Academy regular season does not begin until September 12, Academy players saw split playing time in Saturday's match. More than half of the starters were part of the Dynamo team that finished third in the 2010 SUM U-17 Cup in Friendswood, losing on penalty kicks to Real Salt Lake in the semifinals.
