GAME NIGHT:
DYNAMO 0, SAN JOSE 2

Despite
17 shots and 10 corner kicks, the Houston Dynamo were unable to get past San
Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch and fell 2-0 to the San Jose Earthquakes on the road
Saturday night. The Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak to five games
(3-0-2), while the Dynamo’s winless streak reached seven games (0-4-3).

After
Houston controlled the first half, the Dynamo got their best scoring chance in
the 44th minute. Center back Geoff Cameron stepped up to win a ball at
midfield, passed to Brad Davis, and raced into the penalty area. Davis returned
the pass to set Cameron in on goal, but San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch came out
quickly and saved Cameron’s shot.

San
Jose took the lead in the 69th minute when right back Steve Beitashour stepped
up into open space on the right side of the field and bent a cross toward the
penalty spot, where forward Steven Lenhart dove to head the ball inside the
right post for his first goal of the season.

The
Dynamo pushed forward in an attempt to tie the game and several golden chances
denied by Jon Busch. In the 84th minute, Colin Clark crossed for Lovel Palmer,
but Busch dove to claw away Palmer’s header at the near post. In the 91st
minute, forward Cam Weaver rose high to send a downward header on net, but
Busch made the save again and finished with five on the night.

San
Jose sealed the game in the second minute of stoppage time, as substitute Simon
Dawkins played a give-and-go with Sam Cronin to break behind a pushed-up Dynamo
back line and finish past goalkeeper Tally Hall for Dawkins’ third goal of the
season.

Houston’s
Geoff Cameron started at center back for the first time in 2011 and the first
time since August 28, 2010. Cameron was an MLS All-Star and MLS Best XI
selection while playing center back during the 2009 season. Midfielder Danny
Cruz
made his first start since April 23, returning from a knee injury.

For
the Dynamo, defender Bobby Boswell made the 175th start of his MLS career, midfielder
Colin Clark played in his 95th career MLS game, and Geoff Cameron made his 85th
career start for the Dynamo in all competitions.

Due
to injury and national team duty, the Dynamo played without forwards Calen Carr
(concussion) and Brian Ching (plantar fasciitis); midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson
(Jamaica); and defenders Andre Hainault (Canada) and Jermaine Taylor (Jamaica).
