After a busy off-season which included a trip to Seattle for the Generatino adidas Cup and the inaugural edition of the Dynamo Academy Cup in Houston, the Dynamo Academy, presented by Statoil, opened their USSF Development Academy season last weekend. Both squads traveled to Dallas on Saturday and came away with 2-2 draws against Solar Chelsea.

The Dynamo U-18s got off to a strong start in the 12th minute. Carlos Ibarra (pictured, above), who played last season with the U-16s, made an immediate impact getting in behind the defense and slotting the ball past goalkeeper Ever Estrada. Solar stormed back, though, behind two miscues by the Dynamo defense. The second came just before the halftime whistle as Samuel Hayward picked up an errant pass and beat Dynamo goalkeeper Leopoldo Castillo to put the home side ahead 2-1. Houston fought back in the second half, though and were rewarded with the equalizer in the 90th minute. Ibarra was at it again, beating a defender and firing past Estrada to cap off his brace and give the Dynamo a deserved point on the road.

In the second match of the day, the Dynamo U-16s followed a similar blueprint to their older counterparts, getting ahead early on a 20th minute goal by Elo Ozumba. Solar came back in the second half, though, with goals from Bryson Asher and Nathanael Rennhack, and in a span of five minutes, the Dynamo were down 2-1. Houston wasted little time responding, however, and found the equalizer in the 73rd minute when Lucio Martinez beat the Solar goalkeeper to level the match.

On Sunday, the Dynamo U-14 and U-15 squads played their Texas Pre-Academy League matches against Solar. The U-15s, who won the league last season, continued their strong form, coming away with a 2-0 victory behind goals from Deniz Sipahi and Roberto Marquez. The U-14s lost to Solar 4-1. Christian Molina scored the lone goal for the Dynamo.

Following a successful opening weekend on the road, the Dynamo will return home for a string of four straight weeks beginning with a series of matches this weekend against Andromeda FC. The U-18s will kick off at 2 p.m. with the U-16s to follow at 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, the U-13s and U-15s will kick off at 1 p.m. with the U-14s to follow at 3 p.m. All matches will be played at the Houston Amateur Sports Park.
