Dynamo players called up for World Cup qualifying matches
Four Houston Dynamo players – Boniek Garcia, Andre Hainault, Jermaine Taylor and Je-Vaughn Watson – have been called up for international duty for a pair of CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers on Oct. 12 and Oct. 16.
Following Saturday’s match against the Montreal Impact, midfielder Boniek Garcia will join the Honduran national team for its penultimate group stage match against Panama. Los Catrachos will travel to Panama City on Oct. 12 before returning home for their final match on Oct. 16 against Canada. Garcia has played 90 minutes in all four of Honduras’ previous Group C matches.
Hainault and the Canadian national team will host Cuba on Oct. 12 before traveling to Honduras for their final group stage match on Oct. 16. Canada and Honduras are currently tied for second place in Group C with seven points, two points behind Panama. Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the final round of qualifying. Hainault has started and played full-time in Canada’s last four qualifiers.
Defender Jermaine Taylor and midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson earned call-ups by the Jamaican federation for its final two matches at Guatemala (Oct. 12) and at home to Antigua and Barbuda (Oct. 16). The Reggae Boyz are currently in a three-way tie for first place in Group A with the United States and Guatemala. Taylor started and played full time in both of Jamaica’s matches with the United States last month. Watson has started all four of Jamaica’s Group C matches.
All players will report to their respective teams following the Dynamo’s home match against the Montreal Impact on Saturday, presented by The Methodist Cancer Center, and will return to the club ahead of Houston’s MLS home finale on Oct. 20 vs. the Philadelphia Union, presented by The Home Depot.
