Houston Dynamo to play for MLS Reserve League division title on Saturday
The Houston Dynamo Reserves can clinch the Major League Soccer Central/Mountain Reserve League division championship with a victory over the Chicago Fire Reserves tomorrow. The match will kick off at 10 a.m. at Houston Amateur Sports Park’s Methodist Championship Field (1900 Airport Blvd., Houston, 77045). Admission to the game and parking are free.
The Dynamo Reserves are 5-2-2 (17 points) in the MLS Reserve League after a thrilling 5-5 draw with the Real Salt Lake Reserves on Wednesday. The Dynamo Reserves received goals from Cam Weaver, Colin Clark and Alex Dixon in the final 18 minutes to overcome a 5-2 deficit. Weaver recorded a hat trick to increase his team-leading goal total to nine.
The FC Dallas Reserves currently lead the Central/Mountain division with 19 points (6-3-1), but have already completed their season. A Dynamo Reserves win tomorrow would leapfrog the orange to the division crown. It would be Houston’s second MLS Reserve League division title, after the club captured the division crown in 2008 with a 9-1-2 record.
The game coincides with the grand opening of the Methodist Center for Sports Medicine, which includes performance training demos and testing and evaluations of young athletes in activities such as vertical leap, broad jump, and 40-yard dash. The grand opening will include guided tours of the new facility, food, music, and giveaways.
