Dynamo Academy continues strong form

Dynamo U-16s and U-18s sweep Lonestar SC in weekend series

The Houston Dynamo Academy, presented by Statoil, swept their matches with Lonestar SC on Saturday at the St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin. The Dynamo U-16s won 5-1 to remain tied for first place in the Frontier Division, while the U-18s won 2-0.

In their second match of an eight-game road trip, the Dynamo U-18s got off to a strong start when Jose Rodriguez fired a shot past Andrew Medina in the 15th minute to give Houston an early lead. Martin Agredo sealed the game with his third goal of the season in the 64th minute. Goalkeepers Josh Blair and Leopoldo Castillo combined for the squad's sixth shutout of the season.

The Dynamo U-18s have now won five games in a row and sit in first place in the Frontier Division on points and second place on points per game.

The Dynamo U-16s won their sixth match in a row on Saturday, using a strong second half to defeat the Lonestar U-16s 5-1. Josue Palomino scored his fifth goal of the season to put the Dynamo ahead 1-0 before Lonestar midfielder Jose Cervantes leveled the match in the 50th minute. The Dynamo responded well, however, and scored four goals over the final 25 minutes of the match. Julius Montano and Sergio Quintanilla provided a goal each and Elo Ozumba (pictured, above) scored two goals late to increase his season total to 10.

The U-16s remain tied for first place with Solar Chelsea. The teams have identical 13-3-1 records and 2.35 points per game. Houston holds a slight edge in goal differential (+21 to +19). The Dynamo U-16s have now scored five or more goals in three of their last four matches and lead the Frontier Division with 43 goals scored on the season.

On Sunday, the Dynamo Pre-Academy went 1-1-1 vs. the Lonestar Pre-Academy squads. The U-15s lost 2-0 to snap a four-game winning streak. The U-14s won 4-1 behind goals from Christian Nelson, Gianluca Natera, Omar Pacheco and Luis Aguila. The Dynamo U-13s tied 1-1 with Marco Ortega scoring Houston's lone goal.

The Dynamo U16s and U-18s will continue their road trip on Saturday when they take on Andromeda FC in Dallas. The U-18s will kick off at 2 p.m. with the U-16s to follow at 4:30 p.m. All Dynamo Pre-Academy squads will head to San Antonio on Sunday to to take on Classics Elite.
