Academy Update: Dynamo Academy U-23s reach the final of the USASA U-23 Championship
The Dynamo Academy U-23s reached the final of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association U-23 Championship on Sunday in Horsham, Penn. Former Dynamo Academy forward Bryan Moya scored seven goals in five games as the U-23s competed in their second competition.
The U-23s opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over the United German Hungarians (Pennsylvania). Mateo Jimenez, Raffi Gregorian and Moya were on the score sheet on Friday as the squad opened the tournament with a victory.
Later Friday, the U-23s rolled to a 5-1 triumph over Manhattan Soccer Club (New York). Moya scored four goals and Daniel Rutter added a fifth as the Academy capped a big opening day.
Saturday morning Moya scored his sixth goal of the tournament as the U-23s played to a 1-1 draw with Real Caribe Soccer Club (New York). In the afternoon Moya scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Trenton Rebels (New Jersey).
On Sunday, the Academy fell to ABGC Annandale United (Virginia), 2-1, in the championship game. Christian Diaz scored for the U-23s, with Moya providing the assist.
Next up, the Academy U-23s will play University of Tulsa on June 24 before visiting Joplin, Missouri to face the Joplin Demize.
The U-23 team is the latest addition to the Dynamo development system. The squad launched its inaugural season in May and is comprised of former and current Dynamo Academy players as well as players identified through Dynamo Trials. The 2014 season runs through mid-July.
