With a passionate crowd of more than 23,000 on hand, the Dynamo were stunned just five minutes into the game when a handball gave Colorado a penalty kick, and Jovan Kirovski converted for a 1-0 lead. Characteristically, Houston responded almost immediately, as Paul Dalglish scored two goals in the next 17 minutes, assisted by Dwayne De Rosario and Brian Mullan, respectively, to give the Dynamo the lead. Mullan then sealed the game and a trip to the MLS Cup final with an acrobatic sliding volley in the 71st minute from an Alejandro Moreno cross.
