Houston retains Cup with comeback win

The Houston Dynamo won the Carolina Challenge Cup with a come-from-behind victory over the New York Red Bulls tonight at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 2,613. This is a third straight tournament win for the reigning MLS Cup champs, who overhauled the Red Bulls with goals from Brian Ching and Alejandro Moreno.

New York took the lead in the sixth minute through midfielder Dave van den Bergh, who collected the ball on the left side and fired in a shot that skipped awkwardly off the turf and into the Houston goal.

Houston replied with 20 minutes to go in the match. Brad Davis broke to the end line and chipped in a cross to the back post. U.S. national team forward Brian Ching met the cross and powered a header into the goal.

Houston scored the winning goal in the 80th minute with a neat move down the right side. Dwayne De Rosario fought past his marker and played the ball across the six-yard box. Substitute forward Alejandro Moreno ran onto the cross and flicked the ball home with his trailing leg.
