Houston’s MLS Cup defense came to an abrupt and shocking halt, as the Dynamo lost to New York 3-0 in front of a sold-out home crowd despite a commanding 16-7 shot advantage. Dane Richards stunned the crowd with an early goal, and a Juan Pablo Angel penalty kick made it 2-0 before halftime. Houston pushed the game in the second half, but John Wolyniec scored on the counterattack to clinch the win for New York.
