The Houston Dynamo Academy U-18 team earned an important win on the road on Saturday,  beating the Colorado Rapids 1-0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The win came despite the U-18s missing 12 players and pulling up nine players from the U-16 squad.

The Dynamo controlled the first half and took the lead through Ubaldo Lucio (Fort Bend Bush) in the 30th minute. In the second half, the Dynamo had to sit back and defend their lead, with goalkeeper Pat Wall (Strake Jesuit) and a makeshift backline earningn the shutout.

At the U-16 level, the Dynamo started their youngest team of the season, including two 1995 birthdays, because several players had to be pushed up to the U-18 level. Houston controlled possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances and trailed 1-0 at the half.

After making all available substitutions at halftime, the Dynamo were unlucky to go down to 10 men in the 50th minute when goalkeeper Philip Blake (Deer Park) went down injured. Substitute Hector Ramirez (Pasadena) went in goal, and Houston played a man down the remainder of the match. Colorado put the game away in the last minute with a penalty kick goal.

Both Dynamo squads are back in action tomorrow, taking on Real Colorado in Littleton, Colo.
