The Houston Dynamo dominated the Kansas City Wizards for 90 minutes en route to a 3-0 victory at Robertson Stadium Saturday night to move to 3-2-1. Forwards Luis LandÃn (one goal, one assist) and Dominic Oduro (two assists) led the way for Houston.
It was the second straight time the Dynamo followed a 2-0 loss with a 3-0 win. They will try to continue their momentum on Wednesday night, hosting FC Dallas at Robertson Stadium as part of a stretch in which Houston will play four games in 13 days.
In the 24th minute, Houston broke through the physical first half for the game’s first goal. Luis LandÃn found a streaking Dominic Oduro in the middle of the field. After taking on multiple defenders, Oduro laid the ball off to his left for an overlapping LandÃn, who coolly chipped the ball over charging goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen from a tight angle. The goal was Landin’s second for the Dynamo in 15 career games, and both have come against Kansas City. LandÃn scored against the Wizards in the 26th minute of the teams’ 1-1 tie on October 4, 2009.
Kansas City was reduced to 10 men in the 33rd minute when midfielder Davy Arnaud was ejected for making contact with Dynamo goalkeeper Pat Onstad after he fielded a long ball.
The Dynamo made the man advantage count with a 13-3 shot advantage in the second half, scoring twice. In the 52nd minute, Luis LandÃn won the ball in midfield and found Brian Mullan on the right. Back at his natural right midfield spot after two games at forward, Mullan ran at the Kansas City back line before unleashing a fierce shot just inside the left post from the top of the area. It was Mullan’s first goal since August 31, 2008.
Houston wrapped up the game in the 87th minute when Dominic Oduro ran onto a pass from Adrian Serioux on the right side of the field, then curled a cross to the far post for countryman Sammy Appiah, making his professional debut, and Appiah hit a low left-footed shot that went in off the inside of the left post for his first career goal.
Goalkeeper Pat Onstad made two saves for his second shutout of the year, lowering his goals against average to 1.00 on the season.
Houston defender Bobby Boswell, in his third season with the club, made his 90th career appearance for the Dynamo in all competitions. Midfielder Brad Davis made the 165th start of his MLS career. Midfielder Corey Ashe made his 50th career start for the Dynamo in all competitions and the 30th of his MLS regular season career.
The Dynamo played without forwards Brian Ching (hamstring) and Cam Weaver (knee) and midfielders Geoff Cameron (PCL surgery) and Danny Cruz (red-card suspension).
