Both Houston Dynamo Academy squads traveled to Frisco on Sunday and came up empty-handed, with the U-16s falling 3-0 and the U-18s falling 2-0, against FC Dallas.

In a battle of MLS Academy squads, the Dynamo U-18s (0-3-1) were able to put pressure on the FC Dallas defense in the first half, led by striker Abe Matamoros (Strake Jesuit), who recorded three shots, but were unable to put the ball past goalkeeper Eduardo Cortes. Dallas opened the scoring in the 39th minute when Jonathan Top found his way into the box to put home a rebound of a save by Philip Blake (Deer Park). Dallas doubled its lead in the 75th minute when Flavio Guzman received the ball, took two dribbles, and fired a rocket that caught Blake out of position. Chance Bergen had an opportunity to cut into the lead in the 84th minute, but Cortes dove to his right to deflect the shot and preserve the shutout.

In the second match of the day, the Dynamo U-16s recorded 10 shots on the day but could only put one on net in a disappointing 3-0 loss to Dallas. Joshua Mieto put Dallas on the board in the 50th minute when the Dallas midfield pushed forward, outnumbering the Dynamo defense, leaving Mieto open to slide the ball past goalkeeper Juan Navarrete (Katy Cinco Ranch). In the 62nd minute, Navarrete punched away a corner kick, which went straight to Gabriel Cano, who volleyed the ball past the goalkeeper. Dallas sealed the game minutes later when Mark Ashby was left unmarked in the 18-yard box and headed home a corner kick to give Dallas a 3-0 lead.

Both Dynamo Academy teams return to action on Saturday for make-up games against Classics Elite in San Antonio that were rained out on September 25. The U-18s kick off at 2 p.m., with the U-16s to follow at 4:30 p.m.
