The Houston Dynamo will honor Houston Mayor Annise Parker and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett as the newest members of the Orange Blazer Club at halftime of Saturday’s game against Seattle Sounders, it was announced today. Parker will also present Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti with a proclamation announcing 2010 as the Year of Soccer in Houston.

The Orange Blazer Club, named in honor of former Dynamo President Oliver Luck’s orange jacket, honors individuals who have made a major contribution to the Houston soccer community. Parker and Emmett will form the second annual induction class into the Orange Blazer Club, following last year’s inaugural class of Glenn Davis, Victor Delgadillo, and Jack Stanfield.
“Mayor Parker and Judge Emmett have helped grow the sport of soccer in Houston by supporting our stadium efforts, the 2010 MLS All-Star game featuring Manchester United, and Houston’s bid to host the World Cup,” Dynamo Senior Vice President Rocky Harris said. “We are thrilled to be able to honor them as members of the Orange Blazer Club.”
A self-proclaimed soccer mom, Mayor Parker has played a major role in urging all parties to find a solution on the Dynamo’s stadium project, supporting the 2010 MLS All-Star Game, and promoting Houston’s candidacy to host World Cup matches in 2022.
Emmett fell in love with soccer – more specifically, Norwich City – on business trips to England. He has also played an important role in supporting the Dynamo’s stadium project, embracing the 2010 MLS All-Star Game, and promoting Houston as a city eager to host future World Cup matches.
Canetti will present the inductees with orange blazers during halftime of Saturday’s match, the Dynamo’s final game of the 2010 season.
