After a rollercoaster first half to the Academy season, the U-18s entered Saturday's match against Clearwater in need of positive results. Midfielder Martin Castillo (Pasadena Sam Rayburn) gave the Dynamo an early lead with a strike off a free kick in the 11th minute. His right-footed blast went streaking into the lower right corner of the net and earned a spot in the Goals of the Day video package compiled by the USSF. Houston doubled its lead in the 27th minute when Chance Bergen picked up a loose ball in the penalty box and beat the diving Clearwater goalkeeper. The Dynamo continued to press in the second half and kept the Clearwater defense on its heels. In the 54th minute, midfielder Abé Matamoros (Strake Jesuit) slotted a ball home from 18 yards out to increase the lead to 3-0. Bergen added his second goal of the match minutes later after Castillo dribbled his way through the Clearwater defense and found an open Bergen in the box.

In their second match of the weekend, Josue Morales's (Houston Chavez) free kick in the 35th minute deflected off Bergen's head to give the Dynamo U-18s a 1-0 lead heading into halftime against Cosmos Academy West. After a studs-up tackle resulted in a Cosmos player's ejection, the Dynamo took advantage of the open field in the second half and went on the attack. In the 56th minute, Brandon Martin (Pearland) made a run down the right wing, sent a low cross into the box, and found a streaking Bergen for his second goal of the match and fourth of the weekend. With a 2-0 lead, the Dynamo continued to press and, in the 73rd minute, Rogelio Anguiano Jr. (Cy-Fair) recorded his first goal for the Dynamo Academy. After Jade George (Lone Star College) dribbled past two Cosmos defenders, George squared the ball to Anguiano Jr., who placed the ball into the open net to seal the game for Houston.

The Dynamo U-16s entered their Saturday match against Clearwater riding a four-game win streak. After a first half which saw three shots off the crossbar and multiple saves from the Clearwater goalkeeper, Bryan Salazar (Fort Bend Bush) entered the game in the second half and went to work on the Clearwater defense. In the 54th minute, Salazar made a run down the right wing, cut back, and found Lorenzo Salazar (Houston Austin) in the box to equalize the match. Four minutes later, Bryan Salazar made a similar run, but this time he found Alan Arellano (Cy Creek) in the box for the game-winner. In their second match of the weekend, the U-16s gave up one goal on a breakaway and were unable to convert their chances in a 1-0 loss to Cosmos Academy West, their first loss since October 23.

With a day off scheduled for today, both teams return to action tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. CT against California DA (Loomis, CA).
