The Houston Dynamo and midfielder Geoff Cameron have agreed to a contract extension through the 2014 season, the team announced today. Cameron and Dynamo personnel will be available to discuss the extension with media at a press conference tomorrow at the team’s downtown offices.

“I’m very happy that Geoff has decided to stay here with us,” Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear said. “We’ve seen him grow as a player in three years from relative obscurity as a late third-round pick to the player he is now. We’ve all enjoyed watching him grow into the player he is, and it’s nice that we get to enjoy him for more years to come. It’s a nice present as we head into the holiday season.”

Cameron, 25, was selected by the Dynamo in the third round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft after completing his collegiate career at the University of Rhode Island. The Attleboro, Mass., native was a finalist for MLS Rookie of the Year in 2008 while seeing significant playing time as a midfielder.

In 2009, Cameron shifted to center back and was named an MLS All-Star, an MLS Best XI selection, and the Dynamo Defender of the Year. His play earned him a call-up to the U.S. national team, and he made his international debut on February 24, 2010.

For the Dynamo, Cameron returned to midfield during the 2010 MLS season and scored a career-high three MLS goals despite missing half the season due to a ruptured PCL. In all competitions for Houston, Cameron has contributed nine goals and 11 assists in 95 appearances, notching six goals and eight assists in 68 MLS regular season games.

“I’m very happy to extend my time in Houston with the Dynamo,” Cameron said. “I enjoy playing here in Houston with the support and passion of the community. It’s a great place to play, and I’m looking forward to contending for a championship again this year.”
