Davis injures calf, status vs. Chicago in doubt

Add injury concerns to the problems already facing the Houston Dynamo midfield.

Stalwart Brad Davis missed Monday’s training session with the Dynamo to undergo an MRI on his calf muscle, according to head coach Dominic Kinnear. The left midfielder sustained the injury during this past Saturday’s training session.

“He hurt his calf a little bit so we’ll have to see about his availability for Sunday [vs. Chicago],” Kinnear told the media after Monday’s training session.

Results of the exam were not available, so the severity of the injury is still unknown. However, with the possibility of three players being unavailable, the lack of numbers will be a hurdle for the Dynamo. If the left-footed All-Star, who led MLS in assists in 2011, cannot go next weekend, the Dynamo will be without their main serviceman.

The injury could not come at a worse time as the Dynamo will be without starting midfielders Adam Moffat and Colin Clark (who has played left midfield for the Dynamo in the past). Both players will be serving suspensions when the Dynamo face the Chicago Fire on Sunday at Toyota Park.

“It’s not so good knowing Colin’s not going to play and Adam’s not going to play,” Kinnear said when asked about the impact of the injury. “We talked at the beginning of the season about testing the team’s depth and this will definitely be one of those times if Brad’s not going to be able to make it.”

Houston were without their assist leader for the second half of their 2-0 win in the 2011 Eastern Conference Championship game over Sporting Kansas City and the 1-0 loss in the MLS Cup final to the LA Galaxy. In both instances, Corey Ashe moved up from left back and Jermaine Taylor slotted in to fill in on the backline.
