Perez in doubt vs. Houston after injury during WCup qual

Blas Perez

FRISCO, Texas – As FC Dallas make their final preparations for Saturday’s Texas Derby, the status of their top scorer is still up in the air.

Blas Pérez suffered an ankle knock in Panama’s 1-0 win over Cuba in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying on Tuesday and, while x-rays were negative, “Super Ratón” did not participate fully in practice on Friday morning. Pérez is listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report and could be a game-time decision.

FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman said simply that Pérez is “50-50” for Saturday’s showdown at Houston, and the Panamanian was equally coy about his chances to play against the Dynamo.

“Hopefully I’ll recover soon and I can play in the game,” the forward said on Friday. “I’m very happy to help Panama to get six points, but unfortunately I can’t help the injury here with Dallas. “

Should Pérez not dress, FC Dallas’ options up top include Scott Sealy or Homegrown forward Ruben Luna while counting on support on the wings from Fabián Castillo and Jackson.
