Rob Denton named 2012 Houston Dynamo Community MVP

Dynamo Charities has announced Rob Denton as the Houston Dynamo’s Community MVP for the 2012 season. Denton will now compete in a nationwide vote against 18 other representatives from around Major League Soccer to be named MLS W.O.R.K.S. Community MVP. The winner will receive a $10,000 donation from MLS W.O.R.K.S. to a charity of their choice and a trip to the 2012 MLS All-Star Game against Chelsea FC at PPL Park in Chester, Pa.

“It’s an honor,” Denton said. “The amount of great work and good people in Houston has an amazing impact on the community. It shows the ‘Forever Orange’ family that we are more than just a great team on the field.”

Since 2010, Denton has been an active contributor to Dynamo Charities, the charitable arm of the Houston Dynamo. Denton has raised more than $4,200 through the Bald is Beautiful Campaign benefiting the Curing Children’s Cancer Fund and has served as project lead for the annual Dynamo Charities Fire Sale, which has raised more than $65,000 since its inception.

In addition to his work with Dynamo Charities, Denton works with Junior Achievement, an organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness and financial literacy. He has also has participated in fundraisers for Pints for Pups, Special Friends and March of Dimes. He has averaged 100 hours of community service each year for the past three years through Dynamo Charities and CenterPoint Energy. In 2011, Denton was chosen for the Jefferson Award for Public Service for the Houston area.

If Denton wins the national award, his prize money will be donated to Dynamo Charities and the Bald is Beautiful campaign. Fans can vote at MLSsoccer.com/CommunityMVP. Voting runs until July 13 at 4 p.m. CT. The grand prize winner will be recognized during the MLS All-Star Game halftime ceremony on July 25.
