The Houston Dynamo are working to finalize an agreement to bring former MLS All-Star and U.S. international Ricardo Clark back to Houston.
Dynamo president Chris Canetti confirmed to MLSsoccer.com that the club is actively negotiating with the World Cup veteran and is hoping to put the final touches on bringing the fan favorite back into the fold.
“I can confirm that the Dynamo are interested in finding a way to sign Rico and are in the process of finding a way to do so,” Canetti told MLSsoccer.com. “Ongoing negotiations are occurring in an effort to bring him here.”
With the transfer window closed for making moves for players under contract, the Dynamo are focusing their efforts on Clark, who was released by Eintracht Frankfurt last week after finishing the season on loan at Stabaek in Norway.
Canetti declined to comment on the specifics of the deal or the final issues to be resolved; however, the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the deal is contingent on the receipt of an international transfer certificate and resolving salary-cap and roster-space issues.
Resolution of those issues will be helped along by the completion of Geoff Cameron’s move to Stoke City, which is pending an approval of his work permit. Once that transfer is completed, the Dynamo would have the roster spot and the salary-cap space to make the Clark deal work.
Clark made 97 appearances for the Dynamo between 2006 and 2009. He was an integral part of the Dynamo’s MLS Cup-winning sides in 2006 and 2007.
In 2009, he left the club to join Eintracht, despite the Dynamo’s efforts to retain his services.
