The Houston Dynamo Academy, presented by Statoil, split their weekend matches with the Colorado Rapids Academy on Saturday at the Dick's Sporting Goods Park training grounds.

In their only match of the season against the Rapids Academy, the Dynamo U-18s fell 2-1. In a back-and-forth match, on a cold afternoon in Commerce City, the Rapids broke through in the 78th minute behind a goal from Kurt Young. Colorado doubled its lead eight minutes later, when Austin Seifert received a free kick in the Dynamo box and placed it past goalkeeper Leopoldo Castillo.

Houston pulled one back in the 90th minute, when Carlos Ibarra scored his fifth goal of the season. The Dynamo pushed for a draw, but would come up empty as the Rapids goalkeeper Andrew Epstein pulled off a world-class save on Ibarra in stoppage time to preserve the Rapids victory.

In the second match of the doubleheader, the Dynamo U-16s won for the fourth time in five matches, defeating the Rapids U-16s 2-0. Giovanni Pacheco (pictured, above) broke the deadlocked match in the 60th minute. The Dynamo striker received a 30-yard pass behind the Rapids defense from midfielder Daniel Rutter. Pacheco beat a defender and calmly placed the ball past the sprawling Rapids goalkeeper. Houston found the insurance goal in the 80th minute from Christian Lucatero. The electric midfielder picked up a ball down the left flank, beat two defenders and hammered a shot past the goalkeeper for his fourth goal of the 2012 campaign.

On Sunday, the Dynamo Pre-Academy teams swept Andromeda at the Houston Amateur Sports Park. The U-15s remained undefeated with a 3-0 victory. Andrew Canales scored twice for Houston and Mason Schuster added a third. The U-14s defeated Andromeda 3-1 with Alejandro Lezama scoring a brace and Hector Ramirez added an insurance goal.
