Coming off a runner-up finish in the 2013 Central American Cup, Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia has been named to Honduras' 23-man roster ahead of the team's opening Hexagonal World Cup qualifier against the US national team on February 6 in San Pedro Sula.

Garcia started and played 90 minutes in Honduras' two group stage matches in the Central American Cup, the 1-0 semifinal win over Belize and the 1-0 final loss to Costa Rica. The Dynamic midfielder, who was voted the 2012 FutbolMLS.com Latino del Ano, has 76 caps for the Honduran national team.

Garcia is one of six current or former MLS players that were named to the Honduras roster for the coming match. Joining the Dynamo midfielder are: Víctor Bernárdez (San Jose), Andy Najar (D.C. United), Mario Martínez (Seattle), Jerry Bengtson (New England) and Roger Espizona (Wigan United, formerly of Sporting KC).

Honduras advanced to the final round of CONCACAF's World Cup qualifying after finishing the previous round in first place in Group C with a 3-1-2 record. The top three teams from the final round of qualifying will advance to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, with the fourth place team advancing to a one-game playoff with the first-place team from the Oceania Football Confederation.
