Houston Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia, defender Jermaine Taylor named to national team rosters for upcoming World Cup qualifiers

Houston Dynamo midfielder Boniek García and defender Jermaine Taylor were named to the Honduras and Jamaica national team rosters, respectively, for upcoming World Cup qualifiers, it was announced today.


García will join the Honduran national team camp in Miami, Fla. on September 2 following Houston’s game at the Chicago Fire on September 1. He will be with Los Catrachos for their World Cup qualifying matches against Mexico at Estadio Azteca on September 6 and Panama at Estadio Nacional Tiburcio Carías Andino on September 10. García will return to the Dynamo before their September 14 match at Philadelphia.


Taylor, 28, will also join the Jamaican national team camp on September 2. He will be available for selection for Jamaica’s World Cup qualifying matches against Panama at Estadio Rommel Fernández on September 6 and against Costa Rica at Kingston Independence Park on September 10 before returning to the Dynamo.


García, 28, has featured in each of Honduras’ 12 qualifying matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, scoring one goal. The Tegucigalpa native has earned 85 caps for Honduras. García has tallied four goals and 10 assists in MLS play since joining the Dynamo in June 2012, including four assists this season. García was named Houston Dynamo Players’ Player of the Year in 2012.


Taylor has earned 71 caps for the Jamaican national team, the last coming during World Cup qualifying matches in March. The Jamaican defender has started 20 MLS matches for the Dynamo in 2013, contributing one assist.


The upcoming matches continue the final round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, to be held in Brazil. The top three teams will advance to the 2014 World Cup, with the fourth place team advancing to a playoff series against the winner of the Oceania region.
