Former Dynamo defender Craig Waibel named Regional Assistant Coach of the Year

Congrats to former Dynamo defender and current University of Washington assistant coach Craig Waibel for being named Regional Assistant Coach of the Year in the Far West region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)!

Waibel and the Huskies, led by head coach Jamie Clark, have compiled a 16-1-4 record in 2013 and will host New Mexico this Saturday in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament with a trip to the College Cup on the line. Washington went into the tournament as the No. 2 overall seed and Pac-12 champions.

After finishing his playing career with the Dynamo in 2010, Waibel went to the University of Michigan as an assistant coach in 2011 before accepting the same position at Washington, his alma mater, in 2012. In his two seasons, the Dawgs have gone 29-6-6, including 3-1-0 in the NCAA Tournament.

"The Peaceful Warrior" is scheduled to be at BBVA Compass Stadium next Friday for Brian Ching's Testimonial Match, presented by BBVA Compass, but the College Cup begins the same day at PPL Park in Philadelphia. We'll understand if he has other commitments, such as winning a championship.
