Houston Dash defender Whitney Engen has been called up to the U.S. women’s national team for international friendlies against Canada on Jan. 31 and Russia on Feb. 8 and Feb. 12, it was announced today. A total of 24 players were called up by head coach Tom Sermanni.
The USA will play its first match of year on Jan. 31 against Canada at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas (8 p.m. CT on FOX Sports 1). The team then travels to Florida to face Russia on Feb. 8 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton (2:30 p.m. CT), followed by a quick trip to Atlanta to play Russia again on Feb. 12 at the Georgia Dome (6:30 p.m. CT). Both matches against Russia will be streamed live on ussoccer.com.
Engen, 26, has earned 10 caps for the U.S. women’s national team and has scored one goal. Engen currently plays for Swedish side Tyresö FF in Damallsvenskan but is allocated to the Dash for the 2014 NWSL season.
