Academy Update: U-12s win Toronto FC Fall Invitational

The Houston Dynamo Academy Under-12s and U-11’s travelled to Ontario for Toronto FC’s annual three-day Fall Invitational Tournament and both squads reached the final in its age group. The tournament was held Oct. 2-4 and was comprised of six U-11 and U-12 boys teams from North America. Participating clubs included the MLS academies for Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire and top youth Canadian soccer clubs Vaughn and Aurora.

The Dynamo Academy represented well, winning the U-12 age group and finishing as runners up in the U-11 division. The U-12s had a slow start to the competition, but won both its games on day two with victories against the Chicago Fire and Toronto FC to book a spot in the final. The U-11s breezed through group play, securing a place in the final with one match still remaining in the group stage. Both the U-12s and U-11s met Toronto FC in the final.

“I think these tournaments are excellent because the MLS academies are playing other academies from the league and other local top clubs.” Dynamo Academy U-12 head coach Alan Cuevas said. “The players will hopefully only get better and these kinds of experiences will be very beneficial for them.”

The U-12s won the final on penalty kicks 5-4, after playing to a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC while the U-11s suffered a 5-1 defeat to the Reds.
