To commemorate the 10th season of Houston Dynamo soccer, we are counting down the Top 10 moments in Houston Dynamo history as voted on by the fans leading up to our 10th Season Celebration on Oct. 18 against the Seattle Sounders (TICKETS). Next up is No. 4:

After six years of waiting, the Houston Dynamo finally opened their own home on May 12, 2012.

The Dynamo enjoyed incredible success at Robertson Stadium during their first six seasons, but the franchise’s move from San Jose to the Bayou City always revolved around the ability of the organization and city to build a soccer-specific stadium for the team. That dream finally came to fruition in February 2011 as the Dynamo broke ground on what would be known as BBVA Compass Stadium.

In front of a sellout crowd of 22,039 fans, the Dynamo took to their own field for the first time on the afternoon of May 12 against D.C. United. Dynamo legends Brian Ching and Brad Davis were honored with the first kicks prior to the match, and it was Davis that provided the deciding kick in the 67th minute of the game.

Davis received a pass with his back to goal 33 yards out, then turned and unleashed a curling left-footed shot. It deflected off the outstretched fingertips of goalkeeper Bill Hamid and into the orange netting. Davis hurdled the video board in the south end to celebrate with the supporters, and the Dynamo held on the rest of the way to open their new home with a 1-0 victory.
