It took just two years for the Houston Dynamo to enter themselves in MLS history as just the second team to win MLS Cup in consecutive years (D.C. United did it in the first two years of MLS, and the LA Galaxy are the only others to accomplish the feat in 2011-12).

A year after taking the New England Revolution down on penalty kicks for their first championship, the Dynamo met once again at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. for the 2007 MLS Cup final.

New England, who reached MLS Cup for the third consecutive year, jumped out to a lead in the 20th minute as Taylor Twellman headed in a cross from Steve Ralston. Much like 2006, though, the lead wouldn’t last forever.

Dwayne De Rosario rolled a pass along the edge of the six-yard box in the 61st minute but forward Joseph Ngwenya whiffed on his initial shot attempt. Luckily for the Zimbabwean, the ball hit off his standing foot and spun in the area and he was able to react to poke the equalizer into the net.

Ten minutes later, the Dynamo struck again. Brad Davis curled an in-swinging ball into the box that found the head of De Rosario. The All-Star midfielder snapped a header from 13 yards out into the bottom corner for the lead.

The Revs came at the Dynamo with all that they had in the final 20 minutes, including a point-blank header from Jeff Lawrentowicz off a corner kick to preserve the lead and clinch Houston’s second consecutive title.
