The Houston Dynamo have acquired midfielder Collen Warner from Toronto FC in exchange for a conditional second-round selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, the club announced today.

Warner, 27, has made 143 career appearances (104 starts), including playoffs, across six MLS seasons. The central midfielder appeared in at least 29 regular-season games in three of the last four seasons. He tallied two goals and two assists in 29 games (20 starts) to help Toronto FC reach the playoffs for the first time in club history last year. Warner was selected No. 15 overall by Real Salt Lake in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Portland.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Collen to the Houston Dynamo,” Dynamo VP/general manager Matt Jordan said. “His extensive MLS experience, athleticism and quality in the midfield will be a welcomed addition to our group. He joins our club at a very good age and is eager to contribute to the success of the team moving forward. Collen’s profile brings something different to our already talented midfield, creating strong competition moving forward.”

The Colorado native set a career-high with 27 starts for the Montreal Impact in 2012 and notched a career-best five assists with Real Salt Lake in 2011. Warner appeared in all four matches to help the Impact win the 2013 Amway Canadian Championship. He has been a part of playoff teams in four of the last six seasons, making two playoff appearances, including a start against the Dynamo in the 2013 Eastern Conference Knockout Round. He has appeared in five CONCACAF Champions League games, including three with Montreal in 2013 and two with Real Salt Lake in 2010.

Warner was a three-time first-team all-Western Athletic Conference selection in three seasons at the University of Portland.
