The Houston Dynamo, adidas, MLS WORKS, Southern New Hampshire University and the U.S. Soccer Foundation unveiled a new soccer mini-pitch at the Kipp Southeast Campus today. The mini-pitch is currently the only play area at the new school, which opens this summer.

Dynamo players Will Bruin, Agus Garcia, Abdoulie Mansally, Collen Warner and Sheanon Williams were on hand at the dedication ceremony and coached teams of Kipp students in the first games played on the pitch.

The new mini-pitch is part of a commitment made by adidas, MLS WORKS, Southern New Hampshire University and the U.S. Soccer Foundation to build 20 mini-pitches in underserved communities across North America.  Each new mini-pitch will offer children in these communities a safe place to play, while providing a soccer environment that encourages unstructured play within local communities, supporting the continued growth of the game.

School Leaders Robbie Gill and Lindsey Smith expressed their gratitude by saying, “This space is more than a mini-pitch and soccer field. It is a symbol of the community’s commitment to our children’s health and character strengths developed while playing; to grit, social intelligence, self-control and many more. Our students will be able to enjoy outdoor learning from day one. The after school program will provide an opportunity for families that might not have options. We are grateful to the many partners and can’t wait to see our kids play on the mini-pitch.”

“It is not often that a new KIPP campus opens with a beautiful play space ready for our kids on the very first day. We cannot thank the many partners enough for this powerful statement of support and partnership. We look forward to continuing to build on this investment as we educate and prepare our students to succeed in college, life, and beyond.”
